Swing into Action Golf Marathon
A season of golf in a single fun-filled day.
On September 12th, 2008, the Pihl & Associates "Swing into Action Golf Marathon"
for Injury Prevention will take place at Shannon Lake Golf Club. Up to 45 enthusiastic
fundraising golfers will attempt to complete upwards of 100 holes of golf in one day.
The event gets under way at dawn and ends at dusk. The golfers will enjoy the entire
course to themselves, ensuring they will complete their efforts to drive, chase, chip, putt
beat (and sometimes kick or throw) hundreds of golf balls around the course. Each
golfer will enjoy the use of a power cart, be supplied with enough balls for the day,
compete for fabulous prizes and enjoy wonderful food - and have a blast doing it!
In exchange for this spectacular day, we ask Golfers to gather sponsorship for each
hole they golf. Over $110,000 has been raised over the past two years for BrainTrust
Canada and their brain injury education and prevention programs. This year the goal is
to raised $65,000! All funds raised will stay in the Okanagan.
Why is this an important event?
- Injury kills more children than all causes of death combined - the majority of these are
brain injuries
- Brain injury is the greatest killer under the age of 45
- Brain Injury has been declared an EPIDEMIC by The National Institute of Health
- Every 5 minutes someone sustains brain injury - and every 7 hours someone dies.
- However - the good news is that 90% of all brain injuries are preventable!
Please note: The Marathon is 100 holes of golf. That's right: 100. Not 9 or 18, but 100.
This is the ultimate day of golf in the Okanagan. It is not for the light hearted, but rather,
for the brave and obsessed.
“Not only do I get to play golf on one of the nicest courses in the Valley – but I get to do it for a good reason – raising funds for prevention.”
Sean Pihl, Kelowna, BC
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when my ball went in the hole. I thought I over-shot the green. The next 98 holes went by very quickly.”
Doug Rankmore – winner of Demara Insurance hole-in-one $10,000 prize, Kelowna, BC

“This is the best day of golf – ever”
George Boelcke, Edmonton, AB
“By noon we played 3 rounds and were looking forward to the next 4 and we actually golfed 125 holes.”
Paul Mitchell, Kelowna, BC
“My friends and family didn’t think I could do it. Sure proved them wrong – 6 years in a row!”
Brian Kirkham, Vernon, BC
“It was a cake-walk. Just because I can’t feel my arms doesn’t mean anything.”
